When I was eight years old, my second grade teacher, Mrs. Tobia, wrote on the bottom of one of my essays that I should think about becoming a writer. I’ve been writing ever since.
My first clips were self-published — newsletters on construction paper — chronicling events such as the birth of my sister and holidays parties at my grandparents’ house. In high school, I focused on creative writing and took photographs for the school newspaper, The Rampage. While at Rutgers University, I studied the theory of communication, journalism and English.
After graduating from Rutgers, I took a job at William Morrow and Company in the Children’s Books Marketing Department, where I was quickly promoted to Associate Publicist. I worked with the Publicity Manager to create press kits, write press releases and pitch letters. On nights and weekends, I wrote freelance articles for The Randolph Reporter and Mt. Olive Chronicle in northern New Jersey.
Armed with my clips and public relations experience, I landed the Assistant Director of Communications position at Teachers College, Columbia University, where I wrote and edited the College’s publications as well as speeches, press releases, and media alerts. While at Teachers College, I earned my Master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and published articles in The Manhattan Times in Washington Heights and Inwood, Columbia Magazine and the Courier-News in New Jersey.
A year later, I took a position at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in the Human Resources Department to write, edit and produce the staff newsletter and other internal communications. From there, I joined the Labor Law department at Sabin, Bermant and Gould, LLP, where I worked on internal communications for a client’s cable stations and newspapers. From there, I took a role in the Corporate Communications department at Moody’s, starting as a Communications Specialist and was quickly promoted to Assistant Vice President of employee communications. In 2012, I was recruited by McKinsey & Company, where I worked in both internal and external communications.
In 2014, I’ve became part of the Corporate Affairs and Communications department at American Express. When I started at the company, I focused on campaigns to help all employees at Amex adopt new technology, such as the Bring Your Own Device program. In 2016, I joined the Global Merchant and Network Services team to provide internal and external communications guidance to the Leadership Team and Accertify & InAuth, subsidiaries that specialize in fraud protection and the prepaid card business, which includes Bluebird, Serve and gift cards.
Since my time at American Express, I went back to McKinsey & Company to work with their practices on their thought leadership pieces as well as write for On Point and McKinsey for Kids. After that, I helped Angelo Gordon with their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and led internal communications. Then, I went to Citi’s Treasury and Trade Solutions organization as a Technology Communications Consultant to create content across multiple internal and external communications channels, where I launched a “Day in the Life” and an “Away” series to boost employee engagement.
My passion for technology communications led me to delve deeper into User Experience (UX). At the end of 2023, I completed my certificate from Google in User Experience Design, where I designed two apps, including one for social good. I’m currently working towards my certificate in UX Writing.
